RC40 plans to hold a new online workshop for agri-food researchers, especially for early-career researchers in more marginal positions in international academia, to support them publishing their paper in the international Agri-food academic journals. We plan to gather draft-paper during the summer and ask Professor Michael Carolan (Colorado State University, US) and other senior agri-food scholars (mainly in the US and are/have been editors of such journals) to read your draft beforehand, and to give advice and answer your questions/difficulties about the paper directly in the online workshop via Zoom meeting.
This is a new trial project hoping to broaden the agri-food research in the international academic journals and RC40. Don’t miss this opportunity to receive advice and comments on your draft paper from, or ask questions about the difficulties you are facing directly to, some of the editors of highly reputable international journals in the agri-food studies, in order to successfully submit and get your paper published in a high-impact journal!
Aim:
to support early-career agri-food researchers and provide feedback on their works-in-progress (i.e., constructive feedback on draft papers) to move the paper forward for successful publication in international journals (NOT the traditional research presentation)
written papers will be circulated to the commentators in advance of the workshop. In the workshop, participants will NOT present the contents of paper or research, but rather, the conversation will be around specific issues/problems/difficulties in finalizing the paper for submission.
Participants (those who present paper drafts):
Any early-career agri-food researchers who can present their draft paper, and participate in the reviewing process and the online workshop (PhD candidates or researchers within five years since achieving PhD)
Priority to those who have not yet managed to publish a paper on international journal (in English language)
Priority to non-native English language students in non-Western universities/research institutes
Participants are pre-registered and disclose their identity
About 6 to 8 people per workshop
Commentators/advisors:
Michael Carolan and other senior RC40 scholars, especially those who are/have been involved in editing agri-food journals such as IJSAF, Agr & Human Values, Rural Sociology, Sociologia Ruralis, Journal of Rural Studies (Michael and the project team are finalizing the mentors now).
Planned schedule:
Aug. 14th (Sat.): dead line for application (with abstract);
The project team decides participants; the participants prepare the drafts
Sept. 14th (Mon): deadline of the draft papers (participants submit full-paper-draft);
All the participants and senior scholar commentators review the drafts (for 2 weeks)
Sept. 29th (Tue), from 10am to around noon Japan Standard Time: Online workshop via zoom
This workshop time will be:
Monday night in the USA
Tuesday morning in Indonesia and other Asian countries
Tuesday noon in Australia and NZ
With this time arrangement, it should be more convenient for Asian and Oceanian researchers and US editors to participate. Next time, we hope to set time more convenient for European editors and participants from other part of the world.
To apply:
Please email your abstract (less than 300 words) with title, name, affiliation, and email to Midori (midorihiraga@gmail.com) by the end of Saturday, Aug 14th (Japan Standard Time/JST). If you have any question, also email Midori.
