TBS is recruiting a Post-Doctoral researcher on a full-time contract for a period of 22 monthsideally starting in May 2023.
The post is financed by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme. The post holder will contribute to the work of a large-scale research project entitled TWINSEEDS which explores how the post-Covid ‘new normal’ will impact on Global Value Chains (GVCs).
The post :
As part of a small team based in the Department of Strategy in TBS you will be working on the core element of the project, which involves understanding the impact of key contextual changes (the pandemic, geopolitical shifts, environmental concerns) on GVCs. The TBS team will focus on the impact of environmental shifts, in particular exploring the evolution of new business models, especially reshoring or circular models, their impact and the role of policy in fostering such shifts in production. Specifically the researcher will assist in several key tasks :
- Exploring quantitative data (trade figures, production figures…) which can illuminate these questions
- Interviewing key policy and business support actors, as well as NGOs, to explore the wider policy and economic environment in which these models are evolving.
- Undertaking case studies on the opportunities and challenges represented by reshoring and circularity in two contrasting sectors - building and construction and textiles and clothing. In this task, the researcher will collaborate closely with a series of case studies undertaken by teams in other TWNSEEDS partners.
- Writing up results for input to academic publications, reports for the European Commission and policy briefs.
Candidate Profile:
• A PhD in international business/economic geography/international political economy with a strong focus on global value chains and/or the integration of environmental (ad social) concerns into business models.
• Experience with fieldwork in an industrial setting.
• A working knowledge of French and English is necessary to ensure the domestic and international aspects of the project.
• A capacity to work well in a team with enthusiasm, dedication and good humour.
